Mythology
In Greek mythology, Mount Pelion (which took its name from the mythical king Peleus, father of Achilles) was the homeland of Chiron and the Centaurs.

Mount Pelion is the place where Jason and the Argonauts started their guest for the Golden Fleece. The ship for this voyage was build by Argos, from whom it took its name, ''Argo''. It was made from wood from the trees of mount Pelion, and under the guidence of the Goddess Athena.
