1992 QB1 was the first orbiting object discovered beyond Pluto. The term cubewano derives from "QB1".

1992 QB1 has not yet been named. All cubewanos are named for gods of creation, ascension and resurrection. The discoverers Jewitt and Luu suggested the name Smiley for the object, but as there is already another asteroid with that name (1613 Smiley) the name couldn't be used.
