Ceto has a binary companion. This is the second known tidally-evolved transneptunian binary system after Pluto-Charon (a situation where the spin period of the components is equal to their orbital period and therefore they present the same face to one another all the time). Ceto and its companion form a close binary system and their mutual orbit is nearly circular.
