New Moon in Leo — July 23, 2017, 09:46 UT

There are two New Moons in Leo this year. The New Moon at the first degree of Leo on July 23 was the first one, and the second one will be the Total Solar Eclipse on Aug. 21

The New Moon of today was in conjunction with Mars and centaur planet 32532 Thereus. Thereus was sharing the first degree of Leo with the Sun and the Moon. Thereus has ingressed Leo only two days ago. Mars is forming a square to Uranus in the late degrees of Aries.

The Mars-Uranus square has a reputation of an aspect causing impatience and accident proneness, if it is not handled right. Thereus is now helping us to handle our impulses and teaching us patience.

32532 Thereus was discovered in 2001. Thereus is a Saturn-crosser. Its orbit lies between Saturn and Uranus, and crosses only the orbit of Saturn. The orbital period is 34.6 years. Astrologically Thereus contains some saturnian discipline and authority. It was named after a centaur that hunted bears, captured them, and carried them home, alive and struggling.

In the Greek mythology the centaurs were primitive creatures, which lived in caves and hunted wild animals. They were usually causing trouble and rioting. Thereus must have been quite brave and strong, as he was able to carry a struggling bear home alive. He did not do this only on one occasion; rather he used to do it repeatedly. So we can assume that he was shrewd, and was able to control raging animals somehow.

My examples are two politicians, who have their Sun in conjunction with Thereus. Both are or have been leaders of their country, and in office at a challenging period.

Boris Yeltsin (born Feb. 1, 1931) was a Soviet politician and the first directly elected president in Russian history, serving from 1991 to 1999. He played a significant role in the dissolution of the Soviet Union. Many people remember him standing on a tank outside of the Russian White House resisting the coup attempt in Aug. 1991. He was the president of Russia at a time of great change, and defended democracy in challenging circumstances. Yeltsin has an exact Sun-Thereus conjunction in Aquarius.

Theresa May (born Oct. 1, 1956) is a British politician. She has the Sun-Thereus conjunction in Libra. On July 13, 2016, two days after becoming the leader of the Conservative Party, Theresa May was appointed Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. She is the second woman to hold both positions. The first one was Margaret Thatcher from 1979 to 1990. Theresa May began the process of withdrawing the UK from the European Union in March 2017. Her struggles have only begun. May has been compared to The Iron Lady, Margaret Thatcher (Oct. 13, 1925 – Apr. 8, 2013), who in her birth chart has Thereus at her ascendant.
