Full Moon in Gemini / Penumbral lunar eclipse – November 30, 2020, 11:30 UT

Monday, November 30th, 2020

The Full Moon in Gemini is a penumbral lunar eclipse, which means that the Moon is not totally darkened by the shadow of the Earth. The eclipse takes place on the North node of the Moon, meaning it is future oriented. Gemini is the sign of communication and its ruler Mercury, the messenger of the gods, is in the intense Scorpio in sextile aspect to the tightening Jupiter-Saturn conjunction in the late degrees of Capricorn.

Jupiter in its part rules the sign of Sagittarius, where the Sun is now. Sagittarians like to explore and reach far. The Sun is in conjunction with an oddball among the asteroids, 514107 Kaʻepaokaʻawela.

514107 Kaʻepaokaʻawela is a small asteroid that shares Jupiter’s orbit around the Sun, but it is moving in the opposite direction, and yet survives. Its orbit is quite stable. Kaʻepaokaʻawela has been in its co-orbital relation with Jupiter for at least a million years and will continue to be at least another million years. What is more, Kaʻepaokaʻawela may be of interstellar origin.

In the discovery chart of Kaʻepaokaʻawela (discovered in 2014), Kaʻepaokaʻawela is in conjunction with Jupiter in Leo. The Moon of the discovery chart is at 26+ Capricorn, exactly where Jupiter is transiting now. Mercury was in conjunction with Saturn in Scorpio, right where Mercury is currently.

Recently we have been offered imagination stimulating news. The huge Arecibo observatory in Puerto Rico will be shut down. Scientists and astronomers have used the telescope to find potentially hazardous asteroids and in search for extraterrestrial life. In the Utah desert a mysterious shining metal monolith emerged and then suddenly disappeared again. Last but not least, an amateur astronomer believes he has found evidence for a source of the famous Wow! signal. The Wow! signal was a strong and unique radio signal received by Ohio State University’s Big Ear radio telescope in the United States 43 years ago. The signal appeared to come from the direction of the constellation Sagittarius and bore the expected hallmarks of extraterrestrial origin.

Eclipses portend change. They allow us to pause and reflect. If you detect a strange signal in the coming weeks, don’t rush to pack your bags; it is unlikely the aliens are contacting you, rather it is a message coming within, from your unconscious, able to be heard now that the “radio noise” was abated because of the eclipse. Pay attention to your inner voice.

My research results for prominent charts for Kaʻepaokaʻawela are below. Kaʻepaokaʻawela seems to indicate people and events that are bizarre, not necessarily accepted by the majority, rebellious if not anarchistic, reaching beyond the borders, people doing their own thing or walking their own path, or transmitting on a special wavelength.

Examples:

Srinivasa Ramanujan (Dec. 22, 1887– Apr. 26, 1920) was an Indian mathematician. His work was completely novel; his original and highly unconventional results have opened entire new areas of work and inspired a vast amount of further research. “The Man Who Knew Infinity” is a 2015 British biographical drama film about him. – The Sun conjunct Kaʻepaokaʻawela in Capricorn

Full Moon in Capricorn / Penumbral Lunar Eclipse — July 05, 2020, 04:44 UT

Sunday, July 5th, 2020

The Full Moon in Capricorn is a penumbral lunar eclipse, the third eclipse of the summer. The Moon at 13+ degrees of Capricorn is opposite the Sun at 13+ degrees of Cancer. The Sun and the Moon are square to Chiron in Aries and in exact square to Elatus in Libra.

31824 Elatus is a centaur discovered in 1999. The orbital period is around 40 years. In Greek mythology Elatus was a centaur who used to pull up whole fir trees and use them as weapons. During the battle with Heracles, Elatus was killed by a poisoned arrow that passed through his arm and continued to wound Chiron in the knee, eventually leading to his death as well.

Examples of people with prominent Elatus:

Nostradamus (Dec. 14, 1503 – July 2, 1566), a French astronomer-astrologer, physician and seer, sometimes referred to as the “prophet of doom.” Nostradamus’s data is conflicting. He was born either on Dec. 14 or Dec. 21, 1503. The source for Dec. 14, 1503 is Oracles of Nostradamus by Charles A. Ward. – The Sun conjunct Elatus in the beginning of Capricorn.

New Moon in Cancer / Annular Solar Eclipse — June 21, 2020, 06:41 UT

Sunday, June 21st, 2020

Summer Solstice – June 20, 2020, 21:44 UT

The eclipse season of this summer began two weeks ago on June 5, 2020, with a lunar eclipse in Sagittarius. There are three eclipses in this eclipse season. On June 21, 2020, there was the New Moon in Cancer, which was also an annular solar eclipse. Two weeks later, on July 5, 2020, there will be another lunar eclipse in Capricorn.

On June 20, 2020, at 21:44 UT, the Sun entered Cancer. The summer solstice is the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere. Only about nine hours after the ingress of the Sun, on June 21, 2020, at 06:41 UT, the solar eclipse occurred in the first degree of the sign, in a close conjunction with the lunar North Node. The Nodes indicate the relationship between the Sun, the Moon and the Earth. They are points where the Moon’s orbit around the Earth intersects the Earth’s orbit around the Sun. The North Node is oriented in the future. In both charts it is in the last degree of Gemini. Mercury, the ruler of Gemini is retrograding, which suggests challenges on the way.

The solar eclipse in Cancer occurred in a perfect square to the Aries point, which represents one’s relationship to the larger world around one.

The Cancer solar eclipse was in conjunction with the main belt asteroid 10 Hygiea, which in spite of its small size meets the requirements of a dwarf planet because of its round shape. Asteroid Hygiea is associated with preserving good health. It was named after the Greek personification of health, cleanliness and hygiene. She is reminding us, that although the pandemic restrictions are being loosened in many countries, the virus has not disappeared, and we still need to follow good hygiene practices.

The Minor Planet Center has announced two new namings of the trans-Neptunian objects in June 2020. Provisionally designated 2015 TG387 is now 541132 Leleākūhonua. It was discovered by American astronomers David Tholen, Chad Trujillo and Scott Sheppard in October 2015. Based on the letters TG in its provisional designation and the discovery around Halloween it was first nicknamed as The Goblin.

541132 Leleākūhonua is an extreme trans-Neptunian object (ETNO) and a sednoid. Its elliptical orbit fits exactly into the models of how distant objects should behave if Planet Nine exists. According to the official naming citation, “Leleākūhonua is a life form mentioned in the Hawaiian creation chant, the Kumulipo. The name compares the orbit to the flight of migratory birds and evokes a yearning to be near Earth.” Its orbital period around the Sun is about 35,760 years.

What was the world like 35,000 – 36,000 years ago, when Leleākūhonua last time was in this same position in its orbit? It was before the Last Glacial Maximum. Most parts of North America and northern Europe were covered with ice. The Neanderthals had disappeared only recently, around 40,000 years ago. The oldest cave art discovered in the world is from around 40,000 BP. Some of the early Europeans managed to survive the Ice Age.

The ephemeris of Leleākūhonua is not available at the moment, so unfortunately I am not able to place it in the charts yet.

The other recently named trans-Neptunian is 184314 Mbabamwanawaresa, a cubewano discovered in March 2005 by an American astronomer Marc W. Buie. The orbital period around the Sun is 302 years. In the astrological chart Mbabamwanawaresa is now at 8+ degrees of Scorpio opposite Uranus in Taurus.

184314 Mbabamwanawaresa was named after a Zulu goddess of rain, agriculture, and the harvest. “She is the goddess of rainbows, a symbol of the link between heaven and Earth. She is particularly revered for teaching the people of southern Africa the art of making beer.” Beer is one of the oldest and most popular drinks in the world, and certainly one of the most social ones. Currently we have had to reduce our social contacts to minimum. Perhaps Mbabamwanawaresa’s symbolism is in connection to this situation.

A few days ago Alaska officials airlifted a wrecked bus from a remote trail outside Denali National Park into another location. Perhaps you have seen the film Into the Wild (2007), which tells the story of Christopher McCandless, a young man who hiked into the Alaskan wilderness in the early 1990s. He spent the last months of his life in that bus and died in it in starvation. He distanced himself socially of his own will. Christopher McCandless had Jupiter in conjunction with Mbabamwanawaresa in early Virgo, opposite retrograde Mercury – the ruler of Virgo – in late Aquarius. Jupiter is one of the so called social planets. Its principle is expansion. It can represent exploration, love of freedom and independence, for instance. The negative side of Jupiter is excess, and in this case perhaps the extreme withdrawal from society.

Jon Krakauer, a writer and mountaineer, the author of the book Into the Wild, which was later filmed, has his Moon conjunct Mbabamwanawaresa in Leo. Sean Penn, the director of the film has the Sun-Mbabamwanawaresa conjunction in Leo. Emile Hirsch who portrayed McCandless has his Pisces Sun opposite Mbabamwanawaresa in Virgo. Eddie Vedder, who performed the songs on the soundtrack of the film, has his Capricorn Sun in trine to Mbabamwanawaresa in Virgo.

Full Moon in Cancer / Penumbral Lunar Eclipse — January 10, 2020, 19:21 UT

Friday, January 10th, 2020

The Full Moon in Cancer is a lunar eclipse, and it happens only two days before the Saturn-Pluto conjunction in Capricorn on Jan. 12, 2020. The Moon aligns opposite the Sun and a considerable cluster of planets and smaller celestial bodies gathered in Capricorn. Closest to the Sun is 15810 Arawn, a trans-Neptunian body in the plutino class.

The Sun = 20 Cap 00
The Moon = 20 Can 00
Mercury = 20 Cap 06
Saturn = 22 Cap 33
Pluto = 22 Cap 42
Arrokoth (nicknamed Ultima Thule) = 17 Cap 48
Amycus = 18 Cap 50
Arawn = 20 Cap 42
Ceres = 21 Cap 49
Chariklo = 24 Cap 15

15810 Arawn was discovered in 1994 and named two years ago in 2017 from Welsh mythology. According to the naming rules of the International Astronomical Union (IAU), all plutinos are given mythological names associated with the underworld.

In Welsh mythology Arawn was the ruler of the Celtic otherworld, Annwfn, meaning “the in-world”, derived from an (“in, inside”) and dwfn (“world”). Annwfn was like a paradise, a world of eternal youth where disease was absent and food was ever-abundant. It was not equivalent to Hell of Christians. The influence of Christianity transformed the otherworld to the underworld.

The Mabinogion are the earliest prose stories of the literature of Britain. The stories were compiled in Middle Welsh in the 12th – 13th centuries from earlier oral traditions, during the period when the Welsh struggled to maintain their independence. The First Branch of the Mabinogi tells how Pwyll, the prince of Dyfed, and the shapeshifter Arawn met and befriended. Honor is highly revered value throughout the Mabinogi.

Sioned Davies says in her English translation of The Mabinogion (Oxford University Press 2007) about the tales: “Not only do they reflect themes and characters from myth and legend, they also show how Wales responded to conquest and colonization.” The patriotic hymn Gweddi dros Gymru (“A prayer for Wales”), written by Lewis Valentine, a Welsh politician and Welsh-language activist, is sometimes considered to be the second Welsh national anthem. It is usually sung to the tune of Jean Sibelius’s Finlandia Hymn, one of the most important national songs of Finland. Finlandia, Op. 26, is a tone poem written in 1899 and revised in 1900. The premiere was on July 2, 1900, in Helsinki, during the Sun-Arawn conjunction in Cancer. At the time Finland was incorporated into the Russian Empire as the autonomous Grand Duchy of Finland. (Finland declared itself independent in 1917.) In order to avoid Russian censorship, Finlandia had to be performed under alternative titles at various musical concerts.

The Sun represents the main expression of the individual. In astrologer Bernadette Brady’s words, “it reveals the myth or story that the individual follows through life.” The conjunction is a strong aspect which combines the energies of the planets in question. The following examples are soulful artist with the Sun-Arawn conjunction:

Frida Kahlo (July 6, 1907 – July 13, 1954) was a Mexican painter known for her many self-portraits and works inspired by the nature and artifacts of Mexico. She has a stellium in Cancer consisting of the Sun, Neptune, Jupiter, Ceres and Arawn.

Woody Guthrie (July 14, 1912 – Oct. 3, 1967) was an American singer-songwriter, who wrote the song “This Land Is Your Land“. Also Guthrie has a stellium in Cancer, including the Sun, Neptune, Venus and Arawn.

Van Morrison (born Aug. 31, 1945), the “Celtic Soul”, is a Northern Irish singer-songwriter. He has said: “If you’re trying to be something other, like something superficial, trying to be someone you’re not, then that would take you away from your true centre.” His Sun-Arawn conjunction is in Virgo.

Freddie Mercury (Sept. 5 1946 – Nov. 24, 1991) was a British singer, songwriter, and the charismatic lead vocalist of the Queen. He has the Sun-Arawn conjunction in Virgo.

Nick Cave (born Sept. 22, 1957), the “Prince of Darkness”, is an Australian musician, singer-songwriter, author and actor, whose songs often deal with love, death, and religion. He has a triple conjunction of the Sun, Mars and Arawn in Virgo.

Van Morrison has expressed very likely something essential about Arawn in his lyrics:

Soul is a feeling, feeling deep within
Soul is not the color of your skin
Soul is the essence, essence from within
It is where everything begins

Soul is what you’ve been through
What’s true for you
Where you going to
What you’re gonna do

Soul is your station for the folk of your nation
Something that you wear with pride
Soul can be your vision or something that is hidden
It’s not something that you gotta hide

New Moon / Annular Solar Eclipse in Capricorn – Dec. 26, 2019, 05:13 UT

Saturday, December 28th, 2019

The New Moon at 4+ degrees of Capricorn was an annular solar eclipse. The eclipse occurred in close conjunction with Jupiter. Jupiter represents the energy of expansiveness. The Saturn-Pluto conjunction in Capricorn is tightening towards January. The conjunction can manifest in several ways. Pluto is the lord of transformation and Saturn represents structures, so we may need to build new social structures.

This solar eclipse is a member of a Saros series number 3 South. Each Saros series starts as a tiny eclipse at either the North or South Pole, produces an eclipse every 18 years, and finishes at the opposite Pole. Each eclipse family has the characteristics of its own. The Saros series 3 South started on Aug. 13, 1208 at the South Pole. Mercury was in conjunction with the New Moon in Leo. Also in Leo, Pluto was conjunct the South node of the Moon. According to astrologer Bernadette Brady, there is a sense of traumatic transformation because of the involvement of Pluto. Saturn was in Cancer, right opposite the current solar eclipse.

The Capricorn eclipse was not visible in Finland, but in astrology, even if the eclipse is not visible where you live, it has an impact nevertheless. The effect can be felt already beforehand, and the eclipse degree can remain as a sensitive point for years to come.

The astrological climate is reflected in the recent developments of the world, for example in the impeachment of Donald Trump and the certainty of Brexit after Boris Johnson’s election victory in the 2019 general election in England.

The lunar nodes of Finland lie on the Cancer-Capricorn axis. Finland’s Mercury is conjunct the North node in early Capricorn and Pluto is conjunct the South node in early Cancer. The Capricorn solar eclipse took place tightly opposite Finland’s Pluto. In the eclipse chart there are also several prominent minor planets transiting the nodal axis of Finland. Pholus and Quaoar were in conjunction with the eclipse and square to Chiron and Salacia in early Aries.

In Finland the recent weeks have been eventful. The Centre Party lost confidence in Prime Minister Antti Rinne due to controversies on the handling of a postal strike, and the government had to resign. The change is for the better. Sanna Marin of the Social Democratic Party became the new prime minister and the youngest serving state leader in the world. The other four parties in the government coalition have women leaders. Out of the 19 government ministers in the new cabinet, 12 are women.

There has been a heated debate on the repatriation of the Finnish women and children at al-Hol camp in Syria. Minister for Foreign Affairs, Pekka Haavisto from the Green League, has been at the center of a dispute over the issue. He won the confidence vote over the repatriation of the Finns. The debate will continue in January. At least two orphaned children from the camp have now safely arrived in Finland.

Full Moon / Partial Lunar Eclipse in Capricorn — July16, 2019, 21:38 UT

Tuesday, July 16th, 2019

The Full Moon in Capricorn on July 16 is also a partial lunar eclipse. It will be visible over most of Asia, Australia, Africa, Europe, and South America. The eclipse is on the south lunar node and it is in conjunction with Pluto. The Moon in Capricorn and the Sun in Cancer are tightly squaring two dwarf planets, Eris in Aries and Haumea in Libra. These four planets are thus forming an aspect pattern called the grand cross. This configuration has sometimes been called “the make-or-break pattern”.

Haumea was discovered in December 2004 and Eris in January 2005. Both discoveries were announced 14 years ago, in July 2005.

In Greek mythology Eris is the rejected goddess of strife and discord. Because of her troublesome nature, she was the only goddess, which had not been invited to the wedding party of Peleus and Thetis. In a rage she dropped a golden apple of discord addressed “To the fairest one” amongst the goddesses. The quarrel over who the apple should be given to, eventually led to the Trojan War.

In astronomy the discovery of Eris, which is 27% more massive than Pluto, caused Pluto’s exclusion from the main planets in 2006. Among the astrologers the Greek myth has more literally come true, because even though Pluto quite justly has maintained its position among the planets, Eris seldom is invited to the club.

Haumea is the Hawaiian goddess of childbirth and fertility. She can take many different forms and has experienced many rebirths. She lived also as a mortal woman. Her children sprang from different parts of her body. Haumea is one of the manifestations of Mother Earth.

Eris and Haumea have been forming a long ongoing opposition between the years 2014 and 2018. Because of the phenomenon called retrogradation, they have made the total of nine exact oppositions to another during these years. The last of those exact aspects took place in August 2018, but the aspect is still in force because both planets move slowly.

The orbital period of Eris is 558 years, and Haumea orbits around the Sun in about 284 years. The previous time that they were opposing each other was in the Late Middle Ages, making nine exact oppositions between the years 1446 and 1450. During those years Johannes Gutenberg (c. 1400 – 1468), a German blacksmith, inventor and publisher, who invented the printing press, established the first printing house. By 1450, the press was in operation. Printing technologies spread quickly, which led to the establishment of publishing houses throughout Europe by 1500.

The Age of Exploration had not yet begun. Bartolomeu Dias, a Portuguese navigator, who was the first European who sailed around the Cape of Good Hope, was born in 1450 and Christopher Columbus in 1451. Both these famous explorers thus had the Haumea-Eris opposition in their natal charts.

A few examples of Haumea and Eris from more recent times:

Billie Holiday (April 7, 1915 – July 17, 1959), “Lady Day”, was an American jazz singer with a career spanning nearly thirty years. Her Sun in Aries was squaring Haumea in Cancer.

Angelina Jolie (born June 4, 1975) is an American actress, who made her screen debut as a child. She has expanded her career into directing, screenwriting, and producing. Her Sun in Gemini is square to Haumea in Virgo. The Moon in Aries is in conjunction with Eris.

Diana Ross (born March 26, 1944) is an American singer and actress, who rose to fame as the lead singer of the Supremes, one of the world’s best-selling girl groups of all time. Her Aries Sun is conjunct Eris. The Moon in Taurus is square to Haumea in Leo.

Alex Toth (June 25, 1928 – May 27, 2006) was an American cartoonist, who concentrated on such subjects as hot rod racing, romance, horror, and action-adventure. He died at his drawing table. He had a Sun-Venus conjunction in Caner square Eris in Aries.

Chet Baker (December 23, 1929 – May 13, 1988) was an American jazz trumpeter and vocalist. He had a Sun-Saturn conjunction in Capricorn square Eris in Aries. His Moon in Libra was opposite Eris.

Gloria Steinem (born March 25, 1934) is an American feminist and journalist who became nationally recognized as a leader for the American feminist movement in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Her Aries Sun is in conjunction with Eris. The Moon in Leo is in conjunction with Haumea.

Susan Boyle (born April 1, 1961) is a Scottish singer, who rose to fame through Britain’s Got Talent competition. Her natal chart is a Full Moon chart. The Moon in Libra is opposing the Sun-Eris conjunction in Aries.

New Moon in Cancer — July 02, 2019, 19:16 UT

Wednesday, July 3rd, 2019

The New Moon on July 02, 2019, was a total solar eclipse, visible in South America. The Sun and the Moon in Cancer were opposing two centaurs in Capricorn, 330836 Orius and 10370 Hylonome, both of which are Neptune-crossers.

In astrology, even if the eclipse is not visible where you live, it has an impact nevertheless. A solar eclipse is more powerful than an ordinary New Moon, and the effect can last several months. The eclipse degree can remain as a sensitive point for years to come.

330836 Orius was discovered ten years ago, in April 2009, and named in 2013 from Greek mythology after centaur Orius, who lived in the mountains. Its orbital period is around 100 years. Orius was opposite the Sun when the following people were born:

Andy Warhol (August 6, 1928 – February 22, 1987) was an American artist, director and producer. His Orius was in Aquarius opposite the Sun in Leo.

Oliver Stone (born September 15, 1946) is an American writer and filmmaker. He has Orius in Pisces opposite the Sun in Virgo.

Sylvia Kristel (September 28, 1952 – October 17, 2012), a Dutch actress, best remembered as Emmanuelle. In her chart Orius is in Aries opposite the Sun in Libra.

10370 Hylonome was discovered in 1995 and later named after a female centaur in Greek mythology. The orbital period is little over 126 years. These people have the Sun-Hylonome opposition in their birth chart:

John Lennon (October 9, 1940 – December 8, 1980) has Hylonome in Aries opposite the Sun in Libra.

Hillary Clinton (born October 26, 1947) is an American lawyer and politician, whose Hylonome is in Taurus opposite the Sun in Scorpio.

Teitur Lassen (born January 4, 1977) is a Faroese musician, composer, singer-songwriter and producer. His Hylonome is in Cancer opposite the Sun in Capricorn.

This solar eclipse in Cancer belongs to the Saros series 3 North. In “Predictive astrology: the eagle and the lark”, astrologer Bernadette Brady has delineated this eclipse family, based on the aspects of the initial eclipse in the series, as follows:

”This is an over-excessive eclipse family. Its main theme being either news involving young people or news that transforms a situation. This information can cause worry or can cause the person to become obsessive. The individual may want to undertake large plans or activities which can be very positive as long as the individual doesn’t get carried away.”

Recently we have been reading astounding news concerning the migrant children separated from their parents and kept in inhumane conditions at the U.S.’s border detention centers. In Finland the government has to deal with the Isis families in horrifying conditions at the Al Hol camp in Syria. There are 11 women and 33 children, who are Finnish citizens. According to Prime Minister Antti Rinne, the government has no plans of using consular services to bring them to Finland. Even though the issue is problematic, the children are only victims of the situation. They have not chosen their parents. They have to be treated primarily as children, not as terrorists. Is it really too difficult to find a way to help 33 children?

Full Moon in Leo / Total Lunar Eclipse — January 21, 2019, 05:16 UT

Monday, January 21st, 2019

The Full Moon in Leo on Jan. 21, 2019, is a spectacle. It is a Total Super Lunar Eclipse.

If the Moon is above the horizon in your location at the time of the eclipse, you are able to see a big red “blood” Moon. During a total lunar eclipse, the face of the Moon turns red. A supermoon appears big. The Earth, Moon and Sun are all in line, and the Moon is at its closest approach to Earth. The name supermoon was originally launched by astrologer Richard Nolle in the 70’s, and nowadays astronomers are also using it.

The astrological meaning of this eclipse is comparable in significance with its visible awesomeness. The Full Moon is always an opposition of the Sun and the Moon. The day before the eclipse the Sun entered Aquarius, where group consciousness is highlighted. The Moon is in Leo, in the sign of individuality. The Moon is in conjunction with Varuna.

20000 Varuna is a large trans-Neptunian object – highly likely a dwarf planet – discovered in 2000. The orbital period is around 282 years. It has an elongated shape due to its rapid rotation. This cubewano was named after one of the oldest of the Vedic deities, who had unlimited knowledge. Varuna was first associated with sky, later with waters as well as with justice and truth. Due to his association with the waters and the ocean he can be identified with Greek Poseidon and Roman Neptune. In astrology Varuna has been described as a vast energy behind everything, almost too large to comprehend.

Uranus in late Aries is squaring the Sun and the Moon. Uranus is associated with rebellion, invention and sudden flashes of insight. Venus and Jupiter, traditionally defined as the benefics, are in conjunction in Sagittarius. They are square to Neptune in Pisces. Venus-Neptune connections are often related to romantic idealism and illusions in love. Add Jupiter into the mix, and we may be talking about religious experiences. In spite of Jupiter’s often beneficial influence, its tendency to exaggerate can lead to an unfavorable outcome. The Moon forms a sesquiquadrate aspect (135 degrees) to the Venus-Jupiter conjunction in Sagittarius and another sesquiquadrate to Neptune in Pisces. The sesquiquadrate is not a weak aspect. It resembles the square and is a challenging aspect.

Now it is a great time to reach for your dreams and visions, as long as you are aware of the pitfalls, too.

New Moon in Capricorn / Partial solar eclipse — January 06, 2019, 01:28 UT

Sunday, January 6th, 2019

The New Moon at 15+ degrees Capricorn on Jan. 6, 2019, is the first eclipse of the year, a partial solar eclipse in Capricorn. The Sun and the Moon are in conjunction with Saturn, the ruler of Capricorn. Exactly at the eclipse degree is 55576 Amycus, a small centaur discovered in 2002 and given the name in 2005. At the next degree (16+ Capricorn) is Ultima Thule, the most distant world ever visited by a man-made spacecraft. Uranus is stationary direct in late degrees of Aries.

Ultima Thule is a nickname for 2014 MU69, a distant cubewano, which was targeted for the space probe New Horizons’ next destination after it would have completed a flyby of Pluto, which happened in 2015. The name means a place beyond the borders of the known world. On Jan. 1, 2019, New Horizons spacecraft made a close pass of Ultima Thule. The photos it sent to Earth revealed, that Ultima Thule is a contact binary, consisting of two separate bodies joined together. The larger one is now called Ultima and the smaller one Thule. This binary is a primitive object, which is going to help scientists learn important things about the origins of our solar system.

55576 Amycus was named after a centaur, which had an important role in the Centauromachy, a famous myth telling about a battle between the Lapith people and the centaurs in Greek mythology. The centaurs were a bunch of troublemakers (except Chiron and Pholus), and Amycus was a member of his tribe.

The aforementioned battle took place during the wedding of the king of the Lapiths, Pirithous, and his bride Hippodameia. Amycus was responsible for the first death of one of the Lapiths. Amycus was killed, the centaurs were defeated, and those who kept their lives were forced to flee from Thessaly.

As human beings we have an ability to choose our actions. What we do, whether good or bad, affects other people. Also we are members of our tribe, namely humankind. It is difficult to be a truly human all by oneself. Society gives human beings their humanity. I think that the astrological meaning of Amycus has a great deal to do with this connectedness and with the choices we make, including their consequences.

This solar eclipse in Capricorn belongs to the Saros series 2 South. In “Predictive astrology: the eagle and the lark”, Bernadette Brady has delineated this eclipse family, based on the initial eclipse in the series, as follows:

“This eclipse is concerned with unusual groups and the individual’s involvement with those groups. This could be the time when the individual notices or suddenly desires to find a particular group whose concerns would be with healing, the arts, or the love of humanity. The individual will feel that, through involvement with such a group, he or she will gain a great deal.”

The Sabian symbol for the eclipse degree is Capricorn 16, Boys and girls in gymnasium suits, and it speaks about society and co-operation, too. According to Marc Edmund Jones, “This is a symbol of practical experience as at root a matter of developing self-competency, and of life as a never-ending adjustment of ideals and motives to the everyday potentials of human society. The individual is called on to co-operate in a continual estimation and re-estimation of his powers and capacities by his fellows, and to bring an aliveness of interest to everything in which he would participate. A disciplined self-responsibility is demanded for a common achievement. The keyword is animation.”

New Moon in Leo / Partial Solar Eclipse — August 11, 2018, 09:58 UT

Tuesday, August 21st, 2018

By now it should be clear for all policymakers as well as ordinary people, that the climate change is real. The intense heat wave has caused devastation across the Northern Hemisphere. There has been excessive wildfires in Greece, California and Scandinavia; dried rivers in Germany, and ruined crops about everywhere.

The Paris climate agreement set actions to keep global warming limited below 2 degrees Celsius, but this may not be enough. Scientists are now warning about a domino effect of other factors, like melting ice, warming seas and dying forests, which could tilt the Earth into a state beyond which all human efforts will be futile.

The New Moon in Leo was a partial solar eclipse, the third eclipse in the current sequence. There is an ominous feeling surrounding this eclipse. The eclipse occurred at 18+ degrees of Leo in conjunction with asteroid 2 Pallas and trans-Neptunian 420356 Praamzius. Several planets are now in retrograde motion. Mercury retrograde is square to Jupiter, Mars retrograde is square to Uranus, and Venus is square to Saturn.

420356 Praamzius is a cubewano discovered in 2012 by a Lithuanian astronomer K. Černis and R. P. Boyle. It was named in February 2016 after an old Lithuanian chief god Praamzius. According to the official naming citation, Praamzius is the oldest and highest Lithuanian god related to the creation of the world. He is the god of the sky, peace and friendship in Lithuanian mythology. He is said to be also the ruler of time, the inescapable fate. He is also said to be the first beekeeper in the world.

About ten years ago the world was waking to the disturbing fact that bees were vanishing. We are not able to survive long without pollinators. Colony Collapse Disorder (CCD) is the phenomenon that occurs when the majority of worker bees in a colony disappears and leaves behind a queen, plenty of food and a few nurse bees to care of the remaining immature bees and the queen. Why this happens has not been entirely solved yet. Although there probably is more than just one cause for CCD, a link between bee colony collapse and climate change has been detected by researchers. Anyhow, climate change is the cause of species loss in general, and decrease of biodiversity is a threat to us.

Asteroid Pallas is the significator of wisdom and creative intelligence. Hopefully asteroid Pallas in conjunction with the eclipse is able to give us solutions in our worsening plight. The ban of plastic bags and straws is not enough for saving us. The Sabian symbol for the eclipse degree Leo 19 is “A houseboat party”. Without immediate and mutual action of all nations and people the party is over.
