New Moon in Aries – April 17, 2026, 11:52 UT

Friday, April 17th, 2026

There is a huge stellium in Aries. The fiery Mars entered its own sign on April 9, 2026, and there are Neptune, Mercury, Saturn, Eris, Chiron, the Sun and the Moon in Aries too. The exact Chiron-Eris conjunction took place in March, and now the New Moon occurs tightly conjunct the Chiron-Eris conjunction. In the mid-degrees of Cancer, Jupiter, which represents expansion and magnification, is in exact conjunction with the newly named centaur Eurytus, and they are squaring the Aries cluster.

New Moon in Aries

A few days ago centaur 2012 VU85 was named from Greek mythology after a centaur who took part in the famous battle between the centaurs and the Lapiths, known as the Centauromachy. 463368 Eurytus was discovered in 2012 by Kazimieras Černis and Richard Boyle, the same astronomers who discovered and named the trans-Neptunian Praamzius. Eurytus is suspected to be a binary. The orbital period around the Sun is about 160 years and the diameter approximately 190 km.

The official naming citation sounds a bit mild compared to what we actually know about the mythical centaur Eurytus. Eurytus was one of the guests at the wedding of Pirithous and Hippodamia, and he caused the whole conflict. The centaurs had been invited but they got drunk, and their untamed nature was unleashed. Eurytus, the most violent of the centaurs, attempted to abduct the bride. All the other centaurs were up in a moment, attempting to carry off the women. Eurytus’s ears and nose were cut off, and he and many other centaurs were killed. The defeated centaurs were expelled from Thessaly.

Ovid describes in Metamorphoses (trans. Melville): ”Eurytus, the fiercest of the fierce Centauri, was fired by wine and by the sight of that fair girl, and drink was in command, double by lust. Tables were overturned, the banquet in confusion, and the bride, held by her hair, was seized and carried off. Hippodame was seized by Eurytus; the others seized what girl each would or could.”

The Sabian symbol for the discovery degree of Eurytus is Gemini 9, A quiver filled with arrows.

What to say about the current Chiron-Eris conjunction in Aries (2025-2026), one of the important astrological aspects of our time? There is still no fully agreed and established interpretation of Eris, which was discovered in 2005, and perhaps not even of Chiron, discovered in 1977. Their previous conjunction occurred in 1971-1972 also in Aries. From my point of view as a Finn, the conjunction that took place in 1917-1918 in Pisces is more interesting though. It occurred during the final years of the World War I. The Russian Revolution, one of the historic events of the 20th century, started in 1917. Russia abolished its monarchy and adopted socialism. Following the Russian Revolution, Finland declared its independence on Dec. 6, 1917. A civil war ensued in 1918. In the chart of Finland there is a stationary Chiron and retrograding Eris in conjunction at 25-27 degrees of Pisces.

In Amy Shapiro’s Inviting Eris To The Party: Our Provocateur In Unfair Affairs (2014) she writes about natal Eris-Chiron conjunction: ”As Chiron is the wounded healer, and Eris is discord related to inequity, those themes drive you in some way.” Eric Francis wrote in 2024: ”Chiron is an awakening principle. Eris is a chaos principle. Chiron individuates; Eris tribalizes. Their meeting could have a wide diversity of effects for whoever experiences it, and will have noticeable collective effects that feel like a mass uprising of some kind, whether helpful or not.”
