New Moon in Capricorn – Jan. 2, 2022, 18:33 UT

Sunday, January 2nd, 2022

The New Moon at 12+ degrees of Capricorn takes place at the midpoint of Mars and Saturn. Mars in Sagittarius is sextile Saturn, the ruler of Capricorn, in Aquarius. The New Moon is in conjunction with asteroid Tantalus at 13+ Capricorn, exactly at the midpoint.

New Moon in Capricorn
2102 Tantalus is a small near-Earth asteroid, discovered in December 1975 by Charles T. Kowal, the same astronomer who two years later discovered centaur Chiron.

Tantalus is a Greek mythological figure, famous for his punishment in Tartarus, the deep abyss where souls were judged after death and where the wicked received divine punishment. Tantalus was invited to dine at the table of the gods in Olympus, but he abused Zeus’s hospitality and stole ambrosia and nectar to bring it back to his people, and revealed the secrets of the gods. He was condemned to spend eternity tortured in Tartarus. He was made to stand in a pool of water beneath a fruit tree with low branches. Whenever he reached for the fruit, the branches raised his intended meal from his grasp. Whenever he bent down to get a drink, the water receded before he could get any.

The New Moon emphasizes the need for endurance. According to astrologer Martha Lang-Wescott, asteroid Tantalus can signify times when what is wanted is just out of reach or feeling as though one is tested. This can be frustrating, but willingness to work hard awhile will help.

New Moon in Sagittarius / Total Solar Eclipse – Dec. 04, 2021, 07:43 UT

Sunday, December 5th, 2021

The New Moon in Sagittarius was a total solar eclipse at the south node of the Moon. The south node is oriented in the past. Ancestral themes can arise. The Sun and the Moon were in conjunction with Mercury and Vesta. Mercury symbolizes our intellectual activities. Vesta is a Main belt asteroid. It is brightest of the asteroids and even visible to the naked eye. It is the symbol of the eternal flame, or the sacred flame. Vesta indicates the focusing principle, and now in Sagittarius in conjunction with the Sun, the motivation for finding one’s purpose can be strong.

A solar eclipse is a powerful New Moon, and the New Moon always starts a new cycle. Sagittarius is a freedom-loving and future-oriented sign. Growth, optimism and joy can be attached to it by its sign ruler Jupiter. However, there are also some dark shadows in the chart, represented by some Kuiper belt minor planets. The eclipse was square to Aphidas and Orcus in Virgo, and Okyrhoe and Nessus in Pisces.

New Moon / Total Solar Eclipse in Sagittarius
The Sabian symbol for the solar eclipse degree is Sagittarius 13 A widow’s past brought to light. The keynote by Dane Rudhyar is: “The karma of past actions as it affects opportunities presented by a new cycle.”

Each solar eclipse is a member of a particular Saros Series. The characteristics of the series can be delineated on the grounds of the chart of the initial eclipse in the series. According to Bernadette Brady, “This is a very joyful, happy family of eclipses. There is a sense of good news, falling in love, a peak experience that is joyful in some way.” There is a Neptunian influence in this 5 New South series. Rose Lineman says that it “heightens sensitivity and reinforces psychic tendencies.”

Neptune retrogrades every year for about five to six months. Neptune has just turned direct on Dec. 1, which emphasizes the Neptunian influence of the eclipse. So does possibly the fact that the eclipse was squaring centaur Okyrhoe in Pisces. Okyrhoe is named after a prophetic nymph daughter of Chiron and Chariklo.

Centaur Nessus offers healing on issues to do with the abuse of power, and it has ancestral implications. Quoting Melanie Reinhart and Sue Tompkins: “Nessus activations correspond with times when things really do end, finish and transcend to another level, when release occurs and when the turning point is reached.”

In Greek mythology, during the battle between the Centaurs and Lapiths, the centaur Aphidas remained in a drunken sleep. One of the Lapiths killed Aphidas with a thrown spear while he slept. Withdrawal is not always the best policy, at least not if you want your inner light shine.

Orcus is a plutino and named after the Etruscan god of the underworld and punisher of broken oaths. Orcus is a transformative energy, like Pluto. According to Jeremy Neal, “rather than a metamorphosis of control needs, Orcus requires a metamorphosis of integrity.”

Asteroid Euphrosyne is conjunct Saturn in Aquarius. Euphrosyne is a large Main belt asteroid which has a small moon. It is the third-roundest known asteroid. It was named after one of the three Graces, a goddess of joy, mirth and merriment. The solar eclipse sextile Euphrosyne is suggesting that grace of joy is coming into your life, although it may first require some work and serious commitment.

New Moon in Scorpio – Nov. 04, 2021, 21:14 UT

Thursday, November 4th, 2021

The New Moon is in conjunction with Mbabamwanawaresa in Scorpio and opposite Uranus in Taurus. Mbabamwanawaresa is a minor body named after the Zulu goddess Mbaba Mwana Waresa, who has power over water and earth, and who is called on when guidance is needed to make an important decision.

New Moon in Scorpio
Twenty-five thousand people from 200 countries and around 120 heads of state are attending the 2021 United Nations climate change conference, the COP26 summit, held between Oct. 31 and Nov. 12, 2021, in Glasgow, UK. Efficient decisions need to be made in order to bring climate change under control.

184314 Mbabamwanawaresa is a trans-Neptunian object, a cubewano discovered in 2005 by an American astronomer Marc W. Buie. It revolves around the Sun in 302 years and its mean diameter is approximately 242 km. Mbaba Mwana Waresa is a fertility goddess of the Zulu religion of Southern Africa. She rules over rainbows, agriculture, harvests, rain, and beer and has power over water and earth. She taught her people how to sow and reap and also the art of making beer. The Zulu call on her when they need guidance to make an important decision.

In its discovery chart (March 11, 2005, 09:02:47 UT, Kitt Peak, AZ), Mbabamwanawaresa is in conjunction with Jupiter in Libra at the 10th house cusp, the Midheaven. The Midheaven is the highest point of the chart, “the public point”, and Mbabamwanawaresa there is making itself known. Jupiter magnifies it. The Sagittarius ascendant, ruled by Jupiter, is in tight conjunction with the Galactic Centre. Pluto, the great transformer and the symbol of rebirth, is rising near the ascendant. All the billions of planetary systems in the Milky Way galaxy, including our own solar system, are circulating around the Galactic Centre. On the geocentric astrological chart the Galactic Centre is currently in late Sagittarius. There is a supermassive black hole and an astronomical radio source in the center. Symbolically it is an enormous creative source for the whole planet.

The United Nations climate change conferences are held yearly to reduce the greenhouse gas emissions from human activities and tackle climate change. The conferences have been criticized a lot for the lack of significant political action. For instance, activist Greta Thunberg (Mbabamwanawaresa = Jupiter / Pluto) said: “The leaders will say ‘we’ll do this and we’ll do this, and we will put our forces together and achieve this’, and then they will do nothing.”

The chart for the opening ceremony of the 2021 conference, which took place on Nov. 1 at midday (12:00 UT) in Glasgow, is another chart with Mbabamwanawaresa at the Midheaven and the Galactic Centre at the ascendant. The Scorpio Sun is in conjunction with Mbabamwanawaresa and right at the Midheaven. The leaders of the world are in the spotlight and they want to be remembered as saviors of the Earth. Perhaps they will be, if they make wise decisions and also carry them out in practice. In this chart Venus, the symbol of values, is rising conjunct the Galactic Centre. A yod pattern was formed by Chiron (the wound, healing, and awareness) in Aries, Ceres (Mother Earth) in Gemini, and the Sun conjunct the Midheaven in Scorpio. The yod consist of two quincunxes and a sextile. The key principle of the quincunx aspect is “moving into a new situation,” according to astrologer Bernadette Brady. Perhaps in honor of the conference venue, Albion (the ancient and mythological name of Britain) was conjunct Uranus in Taurus and opposite Mbabamwanawaresa in Scorpio.

There are three important cornerstones in the history of dealing with climate change: the Earth Summit held in Rio de Janeiro in 1992; the Kyoto Protocol, which was adopted in 1997 and entered into force in 2005; and the Paris Agreement in 2015. Mbabamwanawaresa is prominent in all three.

The Rio de Janeiro Earth Summit was held from June 3 to June 14, 1992. The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) is “the mother” of all later agreements on climate change. It was drafted on May 9, 1992, signed by 154 states at the conference, and entered into force on March 21, 1994. In the charts cast for May 9 and June 3, 1992, Mbabamwanawaresa is in the first degree of Libra square the nodes of the Moon. Libra is one of the cardinal signs, and the first degrees of the cardinal signs are related to the Aries Point, which joins individuals with the collective. When the agreement came into force in 1994, the Sun was at the Aries Point conjunct Pallas, the strategist, and opposite Mbabamwanawaresa in early Libra.

The Kyoto Protocol was the world’s first legally binding treaty to reduce greenhouse emissions. It was adopted in Japan on Dec. 11, 1997, and entered into force on Feb. 16, 2005. Mbabamwanawaresa was discovered in the next month. In the chart for Feb. 16, 2005, Mbabamwanawaresa is in tight conjunction with Jupiter in Libra and forming a t-square with Eris in Aries and Saturn in Cancer.

The 2015 United Nations Climate Change Conference was held in Paris, France, from Nov. 30 to Dec. 12, 2015. The Paris Agreement’s goal is to limit global warming to well below 2º C compared to pre-industrial levels, and preferably limit the increase to 1.5º C. Emissions should be reduced as soon as possible and reach “net-zero” by the middle of the 21st century. The Paris agreement was signed on Apr. 22, 2016, when the Sun in early Taurus was opposite Mbabamwanawaresa in Scorpio.

Sir David Attenborough (Mbabamwanawaresa at the North node of the Moon), one of the most respected naturalists in the world, delivered an awesome speech during the opening ceremony in Glasgow. “We are already in trouble,” he warned. “The civility we all depend on is breaking. Is this how our story is due to end?” He continued: “A tale of the smartest species doomed by that all too human characteristic of failing to see the bigger picture in pursuit of short-term goals. If working apart we are a force powerful enough to destabilize our planet, surely working together we are powerful enough to save it.”

New Moon in Libra – Oct. 06, 2021, 11:05 UT

Wednesday, October 6th, 2021

The New Moon occurs at 13+ degrees of Libra, the sign of personal relationships and balance. The New Moon is a conjunction of the Sun and the Moon, and this time there is also Mars in the conjunction, in the same degree with the New Moon. Mercury retrograde is in Libra too, moving towards the triplet. The triple conjunction of the Sun, Moon and Mars is forming a yod pattern with Uranus in Taurus and asteroid Pallas in Pisces.

New Moon in Libra
Mercury stationed retrograde on Sept. 27 at 25+ Libra opposite Eris. The retrograding Mercury meets the Sun and Mars on Oct. 09 at 16+ Libra. Mercury represents communication and travelling.

Mars is the archetype of the warrior. It represents action, intention and courage. Planets are strong in their own sign. Mars rules Aries, but now in Libra it is opposite its home sign and uncomfortable there. Robert Hand has described, that “Mars in Libra does not know whether to go it alone and live its way, or try to get along in a Libran manner.”

The Moon has lot to do with bonding, security, and our instinctual feelings. The Moon-Mars combination can heighten emotional reactions and impulsiveness. This can pick even more power from the exact quincunx aspect to Uranus at 13+ degrees of Taurus.

Uranus is the planet of change and revolt, and sudden occurrences. Uranus wants to break the routines. The name Uranus does not correspond well with the astrological symbolism of Uranus, and it is commonly accepted among astrologers that a better name would have been Prometheus. In mythology Prometheus was a Titan god of fire and his name signifies “forethought”.

Also Pallas can be associated with forethought. But where the energy of Uranus is surprising and sudden, Pallas takes time for careful planning. Asteroid 2 Pallas is in quincunx to the New Moon. It is named after Pallas Athena, the Greek goddess of wisdom, handicraft, and warfare. She was a warrior goddess who was born fully armed from the forehead of her father Zeus. Thus she has affinities with Mars, but she was also regarded as the protectress of the city of Athens. She is an excellent strategist and she plans her actions. She wants to please people. Pallas has an association with the sign Libra.

Asteroid 2 Pallas is the second asteroid to have been discovered, after 1 Ceres. It is the third-largest asteroid in the Solar System by both volume and mass, and is a likely remnant protoplanet. When Pallas was discovered in 1802, it was counted as a planet, as were other asteroids in the early 19th century. Pallas’s orbit is unusually highly inclined to the plane of the asteroid belt, and its orbital eccentricity is nearly as large as that of Pluto.

The yod aspect pattern occurs when there are two planets in sextile aspect to each other, and each of them is forming a quincunx (150º) to a third planet. The quincunx is an uncomfortable aspect causing friction and irritation. The apex of the yod is always worth of attention, and at this New Moon there are three planets in conjunction as the apex; the Sun, the Moon and Mars. The other participants of the yod are Uranus and Pallas.

The pandemic has affected our routines and relationships enormously. We urge to get rid of the restrictions. I am struggling trying to figure out how to get back to the normal, and if the timing is right, countless people all over the world are pondering the same now. The New Moon chart is not giving us literal answers, except perhaps that we need to find the right balance in our actions, but the chart is reflecting the image of the difficulty of that struggle.

New Moon in Virgo – Sept. 7, 2021, 00:52 UT

Tuesday, September 7th, 2021

The New Moon at 14+ degrees of Virgo is in conjunction with Orcus, a big Pluto-like minor planet, and opposite centaur Nessus in Pisces. The New Moon is in exact trine to Uranus in Taurus.

New Moon in Virgo
Orcus was discovered in 2004 by Brown, Trujillo and Rabinowitz. This large object shares some remarkable similarities with Pluto. They have the same orbital period (245 – 248 years), and their elongated orbits are nearly identical, except they are pointing in opposite directions. Both form a binary system with their relatively large companion; Pluto with Charon and Orcus with Vanth.

Orcus was named in 2004 after the Etruscan god of the underworld, one of the roman equivalents of Pluto. Orcus is particularly a punisher of false and broken oaths. Vanth is named after the Etruscan demon who guides the souls of the dead to the underworld.

The astrological Orcus is able to manifest in several possible ways, in good as well in bad, as all planets usually do. One of the themes of Orcus seems to be imprisonment. Jeremy Neal writes in Orcus (Pholus Press, 2012): “What I subsequently found in my research is that instances of imprisonment are almost always presaged by manor transits or directions from or to Orcus, and the matrix of Orcan contacts describes with uncanny accuracy the conditions and nature of the incarceration.”

The trial of Elizabeth Holmes (born Feb. 3, 1984), founder of the blood testing startup Theranos, began in California a week ago and is expected to last several months. Elizabeth Holmes started Theranos when she was 19 years old and became the world’s youngest self-made billionaire. Now she is facing twenty years in prison because of a fraud. Theranos claimed that its technology would revolutionize the medical industry by making blood-testing procedures cheaper and more convenient, and by detecting health problems with just a few drops of blood. The claims were later revealed to be false. Holmes is accused of deceiving investors, doctors and patients.

Elizabeth Holmes’s Sun is in Aquarius, as is suitable for a person who is interested in new technologies. Her Uranus, the ruler of the Aquarius sign, is in conjunction with her nodal axis, which is aligned at 12+ degrees of Gemini and Sagittarius. The nodes of the Moon are often interpreted as some kind of points of karma, showing what we must work with in order to evolve. Holmes’s Sun at 14+ degrees of Aquarius opposes centaur Nessus in Leo. One of the themes associated with Nessus is “bad blood”. A book describing the life of Holmes and her company, Bad Blood: Secrets and Lies in a Silicon Valley Startup, was released on 2018.

The New Moon at 14+ degrees of Virgo is forming a tight irritating quincunx to Elizabeth Holmes’s natal Sun in Aquarius. The transiting Orcus at 12+ degrees of Virgo is exactly square to her Moon’s nodes and her Uranus in Sagittarius, as is the transiting Nessus at 13+ degrees of Pisces. Neptune currently at 21+ Pisces is conjunct Elizabeth Holmes’s solar arc directed Sun. Solar arc direction is one of the astrological techniques, by which the positions of the planets are progressed to some specific moment. Her solar arc directed Orcus is at 12+ Virgo, occupying the same degree where Orcus is at this New Moon, and squaring her natal nodal axis with a double effect.

Elizabeth Holmes founded the company Real-Time Cures in 2003 and soon renamed it Theranos. The certificate showing the name change was filed on Dec. 15, 2004. The solar arc directed Orcus is now at 13+ Virgo, tripling the Orcean energy, and the solar arc directed Nessus is at 14+ Aquarius, exactly conjunct Elizabeth Holmes’s natal Sun.

An oath-taking in the name of the gods and keeping of word played an important role in the ancient Roman concept of justice. Likewise we value people who keep their promises today. The criminal trial of Elizabeth Holmes lasts for weeks, and we don’t know the outcome, but Orcus will be strongly present steering her future.

New Moon in Leo — August 08, 2021, 13:50 UT

Sunday, August 8th, 2021

The New Moon in Leo is in conjunction with Mercury and Praamzius, a trans-Neptunian minor planet discovered by a Lithuanian astronomer Kazimieras Černis in January 2012. Praamzius is now opposite the midpoint of Jupiter and Saturn in Aquarius. When Praamzius was discovered, there was a New Moon in Aquarius, and the luminaries formed a t-square with Jupiter in early Taurus and Saturn in late Libra.

New Moon in Leo
Cubewano Praamzius was named in 2016 from Lithuanian mythology after the chief god Praamžius, an epithet of Dievas, the primordial supreme god in the Baltic mythology. According to the official naming citation, “Praamzius is the oldest and highest Lithuanian god related to the creation of the world. He is the god of the sky, peace and friendship in Lithuanian mythology.”

Quoting Jonas Trinkūnas, the founder of Lithuania’s neo-pagan movement Romuva: ”The world is eternal. It is continuously created by the eternal godly powers. According to Lithuanian mythology, the world is created and re-created by at least two gods – light and darkness, creation and destruction (Dievas and Velnias). Their relationship created harmony and vitality. – – – In the ancient Baltic faith, the mysterious origins of the world and its constant rebirth are mentioned with other names as well: Praamzis, Andojas, Pradziapatis, Sutvaras, Kurejas.”

Praamzius

In the picture above, Praamzius has the symbol of the crescent Moon on his head. The Crescent Moon phase begins approximately three and a half days after the conjunction of the New Moon. The word crescent literally means “increasing” or “growing”. In the seed metaphor, this lunation phase corresponds to the seed breaking out of its casing and pushing the first sprout above the ground.

Praamzius is said to be the ruler of time. The name Praamzius means “before time”. He has thus some resemblance with the Greek Cronus (Kronos) and the Roman Saturn.

In Greek mythology, Cronus was the god of time and the leader of Titans, the pre-Olympian gods. Cronus was said to be the father of the wise centaur Chiron. Cronus ruled during the mythological Golden Age of plenty and peace. The Golden Age was a period of peace, harmony, stability, and prosperity. Cronus was identified with the Roman god Saturn.

Saturn was described as a god of generation, wealth, agriculture, periodic renewal and liberation. He also became known as the god of time. In late antiquity, Saturn was syncretized with a number of deities, and began to be depicted as winged, as was Caerus (Kairos), the personification of opportunity, luck and favorable moments. The ancient Greeks had two words for time: chronos and kairos. The former refers to chronological or sequential time, while the latter signifies a proper or opportune time for action.

Saturn was especially celebrated during the festival of Saturnalia each December. Also Praamzius is celebrated in December at the Winter solstice, followed by the gradual return of the Sun.

Praamzius as the god of peace corresponds well with the astronomical eccentricity of this minor planet. The orbital eccentricity of an object determines the amount by which its orbit around another body deviates from a perfect circle. With an eccentricity of 0.003 in 2016, cubewano Praamzius had one of the lowest eccentricities of any trans-Neptunian object, and a more circular orbit than any major planet, including Venus, the least eccentric planet. Praamzius’s eccentricity varies a bit over time due to the position of the planets.

Some resemblance can be found also between Praamzius and the Green Man, the symbol of rebirth and seasonal renewal, although the Green Man is celebrated in spring or summer.

Sally Nicholls (born June 22, 1983), the prize-winning British children’s book author, has her Sun conjunct Praamzius in the beginning of the Cancer sign. Her first novel Ways to Live Forever: Every Minute Counts (2008), is a story of Sam, a child who is dying of leukemia. The book raises the question, what matters most when one hasn’t got time forever and every minute counts. Nicholls’s second novel Season of Secrets (2009) is based on the Green Man.

New Moon in Cancer – July 10, 2021, 01:16 UT

Saturday, July 10th, 2021

The New Moon occurs at 18+ degrees of Cancer on July 10 at 01:16 UT. About nine hours later the Moon has reached the midpoint of Alicanto and ǂKá̦gára at 22+ degrees of Cancer. Alicanto and ǂKá̦gára are the two most recently named trans-Neptunian minor planets. A midpoint halfway between two planets combines the qualities of the planets in question. If there is a third planet at the midpoint, then all three qualities are combined. Alicanto and ǂKá̦gára are trine to each other at the moment.

New Moon in Cancer
474640 Alicanto is an extreme trans-Neptunian object (ETNO), orbiting the Sun well beyond Neptune in the outermost region of our Solar System. Alicanto’s orbital period is about 6070 years. ETNOs may be influenced by gravitational interactions with the hypothetical Planet Nine, predicted to have mass of five to ten times that of the Earth.

474640 Alicanto was discovered by American astronomer Andrew C. Becker in 2004 at Cerro Tololo Observatory in Chile. It reached perihelion (closest approach to the Sun) in 2009. In the astrological chart it is now in conjunction with Ceres at 23+ degrees of Taurus. The object was named from Chilean mythology in May 2021.

The Alicanto is a mythological bird of the Atacama Desert whose wings shine at night with beautiful, metallic colors. Its presence usually represents good luck. It only appears in the nights and guide lost travelers to a safe place with the shine of its feathers. A miner who follows it can find treasures, but if the Alicanto discovers that it’s being followed, it will turn off the shining of its wings and scuttle away in the darkness of the night. Also, if the miner is not of “good heart” the Alicanto will guide the miner off a cliff.

469705 ǂKá̦gára is a trans-Neptunian object and a binary cubewano. The primary body was discovered in 2005 by American astronomer Marc Buie at the Kitt Peak Observatory in Arizona. Its companion ǃHãunu was discovered with the Hubble Space Telescope in 2009. The orbital period is around 290 years. The system is currently undergoing mutual occultation and eclipsing events, which have begun in 2015 and should continue until 2035. Astrologically the binary is now at 22+ degrees of Virgo opposite Neptune in Pisces.

The names ǂKá̦gára and ǃHãunu were officially approved in June 2021 by The International Astronomical Union (IAU). In the mythology of the ǀXam people of the Karoo region of southern Africa, ǂKá̦gára and ǃHãunu fought an epic battle in the east using thunder and lightning, producing mountainous clouds and rain. The conflict was over ǂKá̦gára returning his younger sister, ǃHãunu’s wife, to their parents. ǀXam is considered an extinct language of South Africa. Its last speakers died in the 1910s.

The conjunction aspect also combines energies that are represented by the planets in conjunction. In the chart of the English novelist Mary Shelley (Aug. 30, 1797 – Feb. 1, 1851), the Moon is in conjunction with both Alicanto and ǂKá̦gára in Sagittarius. The conjunction is square to her Mercury in Virgo. Mary Shelley is famous for her novel Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus (1818), which tells about a young scientist who creates a hideous creature in an unorthodox scientific experiment. The novel is considered an early example of science fiction. Mary Shelley also edited and promoted the works of her husband, Percy Bysshe Shelley, one of the major English romantic poets.

New Moon in Gemini / Annular Solar Eclipse — June 10, 2021, 10:52 UT

Wednesday, June 9th, 2021

The New Moon in Gemini is a solar eclipse, which makes this New Moon more powerful than usual. The Moon is near its furthest point from the Earth and doesn’t completely cover the Sun, and that is why a ring of fire appears around the dark Moon. In some places the eclipse can be seen as partial. The Latin word annulus means “ring”.

Annular Solar Eclipse in Gemini
This Gemini eclipse is conjunct Mercury and centaur Bienor, and square to Neptune in Pisces. Both Mercury and Neptune are in their home signs. Planets in their own sign have strength and they are able to express themselves fully. However, Mercury is retrograding. Mercury is the planet of communication and mental processes. Mercury is concerned with traveling, transportation and commerce. All kinds of confusion, misunderstanding and delay can happen when Mercury retrogrades. The square to Neptune adds possibilities for misconceptions, because Neptune tends to dissolve what it touches. Denial, dreams, deception, and delusion dwell in the Neptunian haze. Neptune is also the planet of art, visions and sensitivity.

This eclipse belongs to the Saros cycle, which started in conjunction with Neptune, on Oct. 12, 1624. Bernadette Brady describes the cycle like this: “A very unusual Saros Series involving sudden flashes of ideas that seem to have a psychic or unconscious flavor to them. Hunches, visions, prophetic dreams are the essence of this family of eclipses. A truly creative series which should leave the individual enriched. The ideas or hunches which come from this eclipse can be acted upon.”

Rose Lineman writes: “This initial eclipse in the second decan (sub-ruled by Uranus) and eighth duad (sub-ruled by Venus as expressed in Taurus) adds refreshing accents of fair play and social concern to sign expression of eclipses belonging to this series. It also reinforces any materialistic qualities naturally present in signs of member eclipses.”

Bienor is one of the biggest centaurs. It orbits the Sun between Saturn and Uranus, grazing the orbit of Uranus. The orbital period is around 67 years. There has been speculation about a ring around Bienor, but this hasn’t been proven yet.

The name Bienor means “Strong One”. Astrologically Bienor can challenge us, and push us to do things that can seem scary because we can’t be sure of the outcome. At the same time we are excited about the novelty of the circumstances. We can break fresh ground only if we are ready to take challenges.

If you are tempted to take Bienor’s challenge now, don’t rush though. Find out about things that you are about to engage to. Read documents carefully, and review contracts several times before signing them, unless you can’t postpone the signing. Make sure that you understand everything, and be clear in your own communication, too.

New Moon in Taurus — May 11, 2021, 19:00 UT

Tuesday, May 11th, 2021

The New Moon in Taurus is in conjunction with Mors-Somnus, a binary plutino named after the twin gods from Roman mythology, the personifications of death and sleep.

New Moon in Taurus
Mors-Somnus was discovered in 2007 by Scott Sheppard and Chad Trujillo. The orbital period of this binary is 243.67 years (a few years less than that of Pluto), the diameter is approximately 100 km, the two components have almost equal size, and their colors are indistinguishable from each other.

Sigmund Freud and Carl Gustav Jung were two famous pioneers of psychoanalysis. They both worked with dreams and the unconscious. Freud had his Mars tightly in conjunction with Mors-Somnus in Libra. C.G. Jung’s Mors-Somnus in Libra was in conjunction with Jupiter and sextile to Mars in Sagittarius.

The concepts of the collective unconscious, the archetypes, and synchronicity (an acausal connecting principle) were developed by Jung. These ideas can also be found in contemporary psychological astrology. Jung discovered that beneath the personal unconscious lies the collective unconscious, which consists of images and behavioral patterns accessible to all individuals and in all times. These archetypes are often found in art, mythology and fairy tales of different cultures, for example archetypes like the hero, the trickster, and the shadow. Jung believed that there are as many archetypes as there are typical situations in life.

Our dreams are the message carriers from the unconscious to our conscious mind. A dream is valid in the first place for the dreamer, but at the same time it can have a collective meaning. Jung studied both the dreams of his patients and his own, which altered and strengthened also his perceptions of life after death. He believed that through our dreams the unconscious can provide messages and hints about matters that we rationally cannot know anything about. Dream interpretation can also help us to understand our long ago forgotten instincts.

The Sabian symbol for the New Moon degree is Taurus 22 White dove over troubled waters. The dove is bringing a message. Dr. Marc Edmund Jones interprets: “This is a symbol of the clear direction or absolute orientation which comes to man from birth as a consequence of his indwelling spirit or divine heritage, whether or not there is any conscious co-operation with it on his part.”

Pay attention to your dreams and meaningful coincidences!

New Moon in Aries — April 12, 2021, 02:31 UT

Monday, April 12th, 2021

Aries energy is heavily emphasized at this New Moon. Besides the Sun and Moon, there are planets Mercury and Venus, dwarf planets Eris and Ceres, and centaur Chiron in Aries. The New Moon was in conjunction with Eris.

New Moon in Aries
Eris is now at the Mars/Jupiter midpoint. Eris is squared by Pluto in Capricorn. Last year Eris was also receiving squares from Jupiter and Saturn. Eris is named after the Greek goddess of strife and discord, who indirectly started the Trojan War. Recently there has been alarming news about the growing tension at the Ukrainian border and in Crimea between Russia and Ukraine. Also in Northern Ireland the worst wave of violence for years is now causing concern.

Nicholas Campion writes in The Book of World Horoscopes: “The history of the Cold War in Europe may be traced to The Yalta Conference, at which Roosevelt secretly agreed with Stalin that the Soviet Union should have a sphere of influence in eastern Europe after the Second World War.” He sets the chart for the beginning of the conference at 5:10 pm on Feb. 4, 1945. Saturn in Cancer was squaring Eris in Aries in 1944 – 1945. The dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1991 marked the end of the Cold War.

Some say that the second cold war has already begun. For example Edward Lucas’s The New Cold War was published in 2008, relatively soon after the discovery of Eris. Eris was discovered in January 2005 from images taken in October 2003. Also the launch of many popular platforms of social media is dated in the same period. LinkedIn was launched in May 2003, Facebook in February 2004, YouTube in February 2005, and Twitter in July 2006. Populist movements have gained popularity in the 21st century, too. Polarization is the feature of today.

Everything stated above may be relevant with Eris. However, the molding of the astrological meaning of a planet may sometimes take time, and the myth behind the name is not always in-line with the astrological meaning. It seems that in Eris’s case the delineation is still developing.

Astrologer Raimo Nikula proposes in Eris vai Proserpina? (Eris or Proserpina?), that the symbolism of planet Eris is better in accordance with the Greek myth of Persephone, the equivalent of Roman Proserpina, the daughter of Ceres. Unfortunately both names were already taken for asteroids, but the planet could have been named as Kore, as the daughter of Demeter (Ceres) was also called in Greek mythology. The name Kore is Raimo’s own favorite.

In myth Ceres’s daughter Proserpina was abducted by Pluto, and she became the queen of the Underworld. In her desperation Ceres stopped the growth of fruits and vegetables. Proserpina was freed, but she had to spend a part of each year in the Underworld with Pluto; for the other part, she was able to return to living with her mother on Earth. Before the abduction she was Kore, “the maiden”.

In his book Raimo Nikula reminds that for example the name of Uranus doesn’t correspond with its astrological symbolism either. Among other things he notes that astrologer Dane Rudhyar (1895 – 1985) proposed the name Proserpina as the name for a yet undiscovered planet beyond Pluto: “Beyond the planet Pluto, symbol of the Guardian at the Gates of Immortality, we may already distinguish the presence of a new orb. I have suggested long ago the name Proserpine for the yet unknown planet; for in that name lies hidden the symbol of all resurrections. And the stage beyond Pluto can only be that of the Resurrection.”

Before the official naming, astronomer Mike Brown, the discoverer of Eris, had also speculated that Persephone, the wife of the god Pluto, would be a good name for the object. According to science writer Govert Schilling, Brown initially wanted to call the object “Lila”, after a concept in Hindu mythology that described the cosmos as the outcome of a game played by Brahman. The name resembles “Lilah”, the name of Brown’s then newborn daughter. However, one of the names by which the Hawaiian goddess Haumea was known is Lailai, which sounds a lot like Lila. Haumea is another dwarf planet discovered by Mike Brown’s team. Goddess Haumea was called by many names, because she could take many different guises and morph from old woman to young girl, and become her own daughter or granddaughter. In 1900 Edward Tregear wrote in The creation song of Hawaii: “‘Lailai of the distant night, Lailai the woman,’ appears as a very shadowy figure, and it seems impossible to understand what power she is intended to represent. She is indeed, to be described best in the line, ‘This woman was from a race of illusions (myth)’—and is evidently some Cosmic goddess, probably the impersonation of the Eternal Feminine in Nature.”

In Jungian psychology Kore is the personification of feminine innocence. Quoting Carl Jung, “Demeter and Kore, mother and daughter, extend the feminine consciousness both upwards and downwards. They add an ‘older and younger,’ ‘stronger and weaker’ dimension to it and widen out the narrowly limited conscious mind bound in space and time, giving it intimations of a greater and more comprehensive personality which has a share in the eternal course of things.”

Interestingly, the New Moon in Aries was also in conjunction with asteroid 4946 Askalaphus, which is a Jupiter trojan and therefore named after one of the Argonauts from Greek mythology. But there is another Ascalaphus in mythology, the custodian of the orchard of Hades. He told the other gods that Persephone had eaten pomegranate seeds in the Underworld, and because of this revelation she was obliged to return to the Underworld every year. Demeter was so angry because of this that she buried Ascalaphus beneath a heavy rock in the Underworld. Heracles for his part rolled the stone away and released Ascalaphus.

In Eris vai Proserpina? Raimo Nikula suggests as one of the meanings of the transit of Eris to the natal Sun as getting lighting to unfinished and current matters. He writes: “A conjunction can be particularly illuminating and truth-revealing.” Are there going to be crucial revelations now that the transiting Sun is in conjunction with Eris and Askalaphus?
